TORNA A SURRIENTO
A molti sembrerà strano, ma questa canzone è dedicata
ad un uomo.
Questi sono i fatti:
Nel Settembre del 1902 il Presidente del Consiglio
Giuseppe Zanardelli si recò' in visita ufficiale a
Sorrento.
Prese alloggio nell'albergo in cui lavorava come
affreschista Giambattista De Curtis.
A quei tempi la situazione a Sorrento
era catastrofica.
Strade sconnesse, case diroccate,
servizi inesistenti. Per invogliare il Presidente
Zanardelli a fare qualcosa ed al più' presto,
i De Curtis (Giambattista ed Ernesto) gli dedicarono
questa canzone (scritta in poche ore,
ma modificata poco dopo nella versione attuale)
per esortarlo a ritornare a ricostruzione avvenuta
e godersi le bellezze di Sorrento.

It may seem strange to many,
but this song is dedicated to a man.
Here are the facts: In September of 1902,
the Prime Minister, Giuseppe Zanardelli
made an official visit to Sorrento.
He took an apartment where Giambattista De Curtis
used to work as a fresco painter.
In those times the conditions of Sorrento were
catastrophic. Streets not connected, houses
dilapidated and services were non-existent.
To encourage the Prime Minister to do something
as soon as possible, the De Curtises
(Giambattista and Ernesto) dedicated this song to him.
It was written in a few hours but has been modified
slightly to the present version. They were urging him
to return and enjoy the beauty of Sorrento after the
hopefully coming reconstruction.
